Seismic risk assessment and prevention at a planning scale is an important topic most of all concerning interventions on historical towns.


There are at least three essential issues to focus on:

– how general assessment methods can change according to different urban context;

– the links between seismic risk prevention and urban regeneration;

– the relationships between specific studies – such as vulnerability studies or micro-zoning studies – and ordinary planning processes.

Integrating different disciplines and finding new reciprocal chance of debate and knowledge exchange constitute a central topic both in risk assessment and in general aims of planning
